SR-22 Insurance & Ignition Interlock - Handled in One Call

If your court order requires both SR-22 insurance and an ignition interlock device, we coordinate both. We file your SR-22 same day and can schedule your IID installation through our sister companies in Wisconsin, Missouri, and Alabama.

What is an ignition interlock device?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer wired into your vehicle's ignition. Before the engine will start, you blow into the device. If your breath alcohol is below the state's threshold (typically 0.02 or 0.025), the car starts. If it isn't, the engine stays off.

During the drive, the device periodically prompts you for a "rolling retest" - a way for the state to verify you're still sober mid-trip. All results are logged and reported to the state and/or court.

Who needs one?

An IID is typically court-ordered after a DUI, DWI, or OWI conviction. In many cases it's required alongside an SR-22 filing - meaning you need both to be fully compliant and get your license back.

State-specific situations:

  • Missouri - most DWI convictions require an IID for a minimum period; restricted licenses and repeat offenders may require longer. Your court order will state the exact term.
  • Wisconsin - first-offense OWI with a high BAC, and all repeat OWIs, require an IID. The period is tied to the OWI penalty and revocation length per your court order.
  • Alabama - IIDs are required for repeat DUI offenders and for first-offenders who choose the program to obtain an early limited driving privilege.

Your court order or DMV notice will state exactly what's required and for how long.

Two requirements, one call: Drivers who need both SR-22 and an IID often have to deal with two separate companies and navigate the process twice. We handle the SR-22 and coordinate your IID installation through our sister company - so it's one conversation, not two.

How it works

  1. Call us at your state's number or request a quote online.

  3. We file your SR-22 electronically with your state's motor vehicle agency the same business day.
  4. We connect you with our sister company to schedule your IID installation at a convenient location in your state.
  5. You go to the install location and the IID is installed by a certified technician.

Our sister companies

Lucent Insurance Group's sister companies provide ignition interlock services in each of our three states. They share our approach to straightforward, no-runaround service.

What to expect at the install

  • Time: typically 60-90 minutes.
  • What to bring: your driver's license, the court order or DMV paperwork referencing the IID requirement, the vehicle to be installed, and the title or registration.
  • Training: the technician will walk you through how to use the device, what the indicators mean, and what to do if you fail a test.
  • Ongoing service: the device needs calibration and data download every 30-60 days depending on the state - we help coordinate this too.

Ongoing device costs

The device carries a monthly lease and calibration fee paid directly to the interlock provider. Costs vary by state and provider but typically range from $70-$120 per month, including calibration, monitoring, and data reporting to the state. This is set by the interlock provider and is competitive with industry standards.

Living with an IID - practical tips

The first week is the biggest adjustment. After that, most drivers say it becomes a quick part of the routine. A few things to know:

  • Skip mouthwash with alcohol. Many drivers fail their first morning test because of mouthwash. Switch to an alcohol-free brand.
  • Wait 15 minutes after eating or drinking. Certain foods and drinks - energy drinks, breath sprays, ripe fruit - can trigger a false positive.
  • Don't miss calibration appointments. Missing one can trigger a state notification and potentially extend your IID requirement.
  • Stay calm during rolling retests. The device gives you time to respond safely. Pull over if you need to.
